Truck laden with illegal timber seized at Amoni Bazar

NAGAON: One LP truck laden with illegal valuable timber was seized at Amoni Bazar by forest personnel from Salna range as well as Jakhalabandha beat led by range officer Nepal Mandal on Wednesday morning.

Sources claimed that the illegal timbers were being carried in the truck from Karbi Anglong district via Kuthori area towards an unknown destination.

The forest personnel immediately seized the truck as well as the timber on the spot and brought all to the nearest forest office for further legal proceedings, sources added. The worth of the timber will be several lakhs. Speaking to this correspondent here the range officer Nepal Mandal said that the gang of timber smugglers changed their route to smuggle valuable timber from Karbi Anglong district via Kuthori after the officials of forest range intensified massive initiatives against timber smugglers in the Parkup Pahar area in Nagaon - Karbi Anglong district border.

He said that earlier smugglers used a few routes throughout Parkup Pahar connecting Samaguri, Anoni or Chalchali areas as the main routes for smuggling of timbers from Karbi Anglong. But when the forest personnel intensified operations in almost all those routes, the smugglers currently changed their route via Kuthori, he added further.
